Mati Wiecheć becomes a new Kings coach

It is with great pride and joy that we announce that Mati Wiecheć – our setter and team member from the very beginning of the club’s existence – is joining the offensive coaches! He is a person who knows our team, our values and fighting spirit perfectly. His experience on the pitch and commitment to the club’s development have been building our identity for years. Now, as an offensive coach, he will have the opportunity to pass on his knowledge and passion to the next generations of players. We are incredibly excited to continue this unique journey together.

INTERVIEW WITH MATI

You are considered a legendary figure in Krakow’s football scene. How do you see this new chapter as a member of the coaching staff in your sports journey?

It’s a great honor for me, but also a huge responsibility. Football in Krakow has always been close to my heart, and now I have a chance to give back in a completely new role. In the 2024 junior season, I served as the offensive coordinator — now it’s time to take it up a notch and be part of a distinguished group of offensive coaches. Working on the coaching staff allows me to see the game from a different perspective and use years of on-field experience to help the team. I hope my dedication will not only aid player development but also strengthen Krakow Kings’ position as one of the top teams in the country.

Let me ask directly — has Mati Wiecheć hung up his cleats for good? Or might Krakow fans still get a chance to see you in action?

Let me put it this way — my cleats aren’t gathering dust just yet! While I’m currently focused on my new role on the staff and being part of Krakow’s flag football team, my heart still longs to put the helmet back on. If the team ever needs me to step in and help in any way, I’m ready. I’m leaving that door open — who knows, maybe the fans will see me back on the field

. Between us, I know how “retiring” from football in Krakow works… Many players have been playing their “final season” for three years now — I think I’ll be one of them too.

As we know, you’re a cornerstone of our flag football team — how much can this discipline help you in your new role? Can we expect offensive fireworks from the Kings next season?

From experience, I know that translating plays from American football to flag football — and vice versa — doesn’t work well. Flag football has its own unique dynamics and requires a much more precise and fast-paced style of play. As for the offense next season — we are working hard to make it dynamic, exciting, and effective. I hope these will be the “fireworks” that fans will remember for a long time! Our new QB1 will definitely help us make that happen.
